MWETANA LAUNCHES SCHOOLINKTM UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM FOR UNITED METHODIST UNIVERSITY

May 30, 2017 will be remembered in the history of Liberia and the educational sector as the day of “education automation”. MWETANA Consulting & Technology Group, Liberia’s pioneer ICT firm launch its automated university management system (SchooLinkTM) for the United Methodist University (UMU).

The colorful occasion brought together the university administration that was represented by Dr. Albert D. Coleman, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Students, the Media and MWETANA. During the occasion, an MOU was signed between UMU and MWETANA for the Bishop J. Innis School of Theology (BIST), United Methodist University to use the system.

During the signing, MWETANA’s CEO/President, Mr. Vivien C. Jones explains the system as life-changing when it comes to educational automation. He further explains the SchooLinkTM is a dynamic school management system that utilizes the latest technologies to effectively and efficiently manage all institutions from kindergarten to12th grade, colleges and universities, technical and vocational schools. It provides a platform to unite school authorities, teachers, students and parents/sponsors, to enhance the quality of education. He also explains that students no longer have to come on campus to register their courses; but can now sit from home, internet café and mobile phone to register. They no longer have to bring in their control sheet or pre-registration. The system is intelligent enough to ensure that prerequisite courses are taken before a student can register for the next course. He gives an example that with SchooLinkTM, students must do English 101 before they can do English 102.

SchooLinkTM allows instructors to enter their grades at the end of the semesters, those grades entered, once approved, automated generates the student grade sheets. Students can view the grade sheets online or they can have it printed.

Dr. Coleman, VP for Academic Affairs thanked MWETANA for developing such an enterprise school system which he describes will curtail corruption. He further said that “it will improve academic excellence at UMU, but you all know that when there is change there will be lots of resistance and so we are still moving forward and [will] not let anyone deter us, because we must make a difference and improve education here at UMU and not do things the same old way”.  He also said that he’s looking forward to the undergraduate school to start using such an advanced system next semester.

Also at the event was Rt. Bishop, Rev. Dr. Arthur F. Kulah, Bishop-In-Residence, UMU who spoke about the importance of technology in education. He encouraged students and administration to learn how to use the system. He thanked the Dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Yatta R. Young, who has been very instrumental in getting the system in the graduate school.

At the end of the signing and launching, MWETANA Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Karl R. Smith demo the live system for the first time. The demo left students, media practitioners and school administration excited with what they said. Mr. Smith also explains that with the introduction of SchooLinkTM, the entire registration process has been streamlined for the graduate school from registering 20 students in two weeks to two days.
